How to Prepare for Your Degree Planning Zoom Session

We're thrilled to start this journey with you and help you reach your educational goals! Now that you’ve scheduled your Degree Planning Session, we’d like to prepare you for your appointment, share a little about Smarter by 1 Degree, and explain how our program works.

The Education Market Assistant Process

Complete this Step Only Once Per Student

Degree Planning $349

🔹 Step 1: Log In to Your EMA Account

Click the link below to access the Step Up for Students

Education Market Assistant (EMA) portal:
👉 Login to EMA Portal

🔹 Step 2: Navigate to the Marketplace

Once logged in:

Click “Marketplace” from your dashboard.

Use the search bar to find Smarter by 1 Degree.

🔹 Step 3: Select the $349 Degree Planning Fee

You will see a product listed as: Smarter by 1 Degree – Tutoring $349

Click “Add to Cart” or “Select”

⚠️ Important: This $349 item should only be selected once per student.

This is a one-time fee for your custom degree planning session.

🔹 Step 4: Submit the Payment Request

Follow the checkout instructions to complete your

payment request using scholarship funds.

Double-check the amount ($349) and make

sure it’s submitted correctly for Smarter by 1 Degree.

🔹 Step 5: Confirmation

You’ll receive an email confirmation once your request is submitted.

Our team will also be notified and begin preparing your student’s degree planning session.

🔹 Step 4 SB1D will confirm receipt of payment in EMA

🔹 Step 5 Classes given in the SB1D Portal

✔ One-on-One Zoom Meeting – Discuss educational goals & create your customized Degree Plan (Roadmap)

✔ Degree Plan Overview – Review required courses, best class options, and degree completion timeline

✔ Program Navigation – We'll teach you how to be successful in your classes and an expert from day one. Strategy is everything!

📌 Important: We need you to join from a computer (not on a phone or in the car). Also, if you’re under 18, a parent must be present with you. If not, your session will be rescheduled, and a $50 reschedule fee will apply. *This is to ensure your success.

Q: What if I didn't receive my confirmation email?

📩 Check your spam/junk folder. If you still can’t find it, email [email protected] for your Zoom link & appointment details.

Q: What if I haven’t chosen a degree plan?

Don't worry, we offer an academic advisor to help you decide the best degree and university for your educational goals.

Q: Can I change my degree plan later?

Yes, you can switch your degree or university, but an administrative fee applies.

Q: What if I need to reschedule?

✔ Rescheduling is free with a 24-hour notice (817) 264-7582

✔ Less than 24 hours? A $50 rescheduling fee applies.

✔ No refunds for canceled sessions.

Q: Should my student be present?

✔ Yes, if your student is under 18, both student & parent must attend.

✔ You’ll learn about the degree plan, how to study effectively, and how to navigate our program.

Q: How do I provide my transcripts?
